5th October 2009 – Day 7 – Luxor to Hurghada, Egypt
Our attempts to get up early to get the 5.30 bus to Hurghada were frustrated as we didn’t hear alarms and phone calls from Natalie and Ruben who went to the bus station without us. They also failed to leave, however, as they realized that they had no money to buy the bus tickets. They trudged back into town for breakfast and we eventually woke up thanks to the gas man banging on his canisters outside. A lot of slowness ensued and we eventually made it to the 2.30 bus, arriving in Hurghada at 8.30 and checking into the Sea Waves hotel which the guy at the “Green Chairs Café” in Luxor had recommended to us.
We left the Boomerang Hostel with smiles and fondness – it was a great place to stay, friendly atmosphere, warm welcome, always the impression that nothing was too much hassle. We aim to be educational as well as entertaining so here’s the plug – if you’re ever in Luxor try out this brand new place (www.boomerangluxor.com). In a city of a million hostels and mass tourism (at least by Egyptian standards) they deserve all the business they can get. Luxor itself was a surprise – of course there was a little business niggling but there was far from the amount of hassle and hustle that I expected from the city – much less than in Aswan for instance, and especially after our few days of freedom with the bicycles and our friendly welcome, I left with a good feeling about the place.
Lebanese food on Hurghada’s corniche kept us tanked up for the evening after which we hit the sack, ready for a day of sun and sand tomorrow.
